Mothering Yourself This Mother’s Day is a Radical Act
Updated: May 17, 2019
Mother’s Day is sometimes a dreaded day for a whole host of reasons. For those coping with loss, grief, painful or difficult memories, complicated or toxic relationships, this day can be the ultimate in triggering.
Regardless of your relationship with the existing or non-existing mother figure in your life, regardless of who you are or where you are on life’s journey, allow this day to remind you that you are indeed precious, allow yourself to mother yourself in a way that feels good and safe to you.
Self Mothering is a radical act.
It means practicing tenderness, gentleness, openness and safety. It means fierce protection and being devoted to your best Self. It means self awareness and self-compassion. It means to accept yourself—warts and all—and commit to growth and joy. It means doing these things even if it is hard, or inconvenient, or if you don’t even believe any of it.
Believing it may be the hardest step.
Do it anyway.
In health and RADICAL wellness,
Allie
