LGBTQIA+ allied care

Updated: Feb 10, 2020

What does it mean to offer allied care?

Cultural Competency” is a buzzword in the therapy world. On a very basic level, it means that I regularly seek and receive extra training when it comes to serving the LGBTQIA+ community and their family members.

It also means that I understand bias and prejudice and work both professionally and personally to eliminate and reduce them in my work.

I use my position as a professional and an ally of privilege to speak out against systems and policies that discriminate against all peoples, regardless of race, creed, sexual orientation or sexual preference, religion, faith or value system.

Being a therapist who is accessible, informed and supportive to the LGBTQIA+ community is not just a goal of mine but a process. I continually reflect on my own biases and blind spots in the service of growth and healthy change.

When we move into place of authentic connection, we are able to change the world!

In peace and justice for all,

Allie
